Amigurumi Crochet: A 6 Week Workshop
Saturdays, October 6 - November 10, 2018
9:30-10:30am
Level 2: CAB Cafe

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of utilizing needle craft to create super cute stuffed dolls. Most Amigurumi are small in size and big on the cute factor. Crochet is the most desirable method to create these adorable toys. In this six week workshop your artisan instructor, Holly Freeman, will guide students through the basic crochet stitches needed to create most any Amigurumi character.  We will focus on crocheting in the round, the most common method in Amigurumi. Absolute beginners are welcomed as well as those with some experience crocheting.

Crocheting stuffed toys is far different than working a blanket or other flat item. The workshop will specifically discuss issues that come up when creating a three dimensional item. We will focus on keeping yarn tension to prevent stuffing from showing and discuss how to craft a toy that will withstand years of love. We will also discuss joining parts and placing eyes, nose, and mouth to achieve that “awwwww, cute!” factor. Students will work with felt and a small amount of hand stitching to create the details of their project.

At the end of the workshop students should have at least one completed doll and the skill set to complete many more. The patterns provided will help the student make impactful gifts for friends and family on a dime.

The workshop will provide all materials needed including a size H crochet hook and cotton worsted weight yarn along with instruction book. Students are welcome to bring their own yarn and hook as well if particular colors and hook style are desired. Please wait till after the first meeting to purchase materials, as we may have exactly what you need!

About Your Artisan Instructor: Holly Freeman has been crocheting Amigurumi for over five years and has created an excessive amount of tiny animals for her children and friends.
